Andrew Cohen: The Future Is Not a Given

Posted on Sep 11th, 2006 by Beth : Being & Becoming Beth
You've got to LOVE this - staggering responsibility but limitless POSSIBILITY at the very same time......

The Future Is Not a Given

The future is not a given. What's going to happen is not already known and is not predetermined. So often, we tend to hold onto metaphysical worldviews that tell us that the higher levels and stages of development are already laid out. But they're not. This is a new way of thinking: the recognition that the structures of the future are yet to be determined, yet to be created. And they don't create themselves; they are created to the degree to which human beings at the leading edge consciously engage in the evolutionary process. Only those individuals who are way ahead of their time begin to create these new structures or grooves in consciousness, and in time, when others progress through the lower stages, they're going to follow those grooves that have been laid by the evolutionary pioneers who went before them. When enough people take that path, those grooves get deeper and eventually become stages that everybody is going to develop through automatically. So the awakening human at the leading edge today bears a profound responsibility to be an evolutionary pioneer—to be the one who is literally living in that place between the present and the future. There is no one else who can do this for us.

lol, how much more coincidences am i getting today?! i’m new here, and i just wrote my first comment at a post at Michael’s Blog some hours ago, and then randomly (Does random exist? i don’t think so [so then its not randomly]) i arrive at Beth’s (which i plan to turn into a mermaid if she lets me) Blog to write my Second comment (as an excuse to meet her so i can then afterwards if she lets me turn her into a mermaid) and what do you say! the first comment is by Michael! I’m goin to go buy a lottery ticket. How many users does this place have?

But to the point. I dont agree with this article, but i believe the author is missing the point. The way i see it, the future IS a given just in the very same way as when you plant a seed, it is a given that a plant will grow from that seed, unless of course, external forces influence the “Given” future. And not only a plant will grow from that seed, but a particular plant, like a mango plant, or an avocado plant, etc. ( There Are rules, apparently ).

Everything we do or think is like a seed or like an external force then. i think. But there’s not even a Future in the first place !!!

Ahhh, yes, and is it not true that when you plant the seed, you are creating the future that begins to unfold as you nurture and tend the seed?!?  Seems to me your point is a deepening of the truth expressed in Andrew's quote, not a contradiction…… No?  And just so you know, if you contradict me, you definitely can't turn me into a mermaid.  :-)

Thanks for your comment - very insightful indeed!

man, does that put a lot of responsibility upon us all. we are literally “making it up as we go along”, and what we make up will form the foundation of the world we live in tomorrow. crikey.
